32 weeks pregnant: Baby settling head-down (often)

Here is what to expect this week for you and your baby.

Baby Size Jicama (large turnip) 42.4 cm Approximately 42.4 cm. Many babies turn vertex by now.

Baby Development

  • Baby practising breathing, swallowing, and sucking
  • Toenails fully formed
  • Skin becoming opaque instead of translucent
  • Baby may settle into head-down position

Common Symptoms

  • Heartburn at its worst
  • Swelling in face and hands (monitor for preeclampsia)
  • Difficulty sleeping due to size and discomfort
  • Contractions becoming more frequent

Tips & Advice

  • Avoid spicy and oily food to manage heartburn
  • Keep feet elevated when sitting
  • Report sudden facial swelling to doctor immediately

Nutrition Guide

  • Light, frequent meals: khichdi, daliya, curd rice
  • Magnesium: almonds, dark chocolate, banana for cramps
  • Hydration: 10-12 glasses water, coconut water, buttermilk

When to see your doctor at week 32

Some symptoms need attention right away. Contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital if you notice any of these:

  • Heavy bleeding (soaking a pad within an hour)
  • Severe or persistent abdominal or pelvic pain
  • Fever above 38°C (100.4°F)
  • Sudden severe headache, blurred vision or upper-abdominal pain (possible preeclampsia)
  • Decreased fetal movement after week 24 (fewer than 10 movements in 2 hours)
  • Watery fluid leak from the vagina before 37 weeks (possible PPROM)
  • Regular contractions before 37 weeks (possible preterm labour)

Baby breech at 32 weeks?

Still time to turn. Optimal-fetal-positioning techniques or, later, an ECV around 36–37 weeks.

Itching on palms / soles?

Especially at night — possible cholestasis. Needs blood tests and monitoring. Call your doctor.

When to stop working?

When unsafe or uncomfortable. India: paid maternity leave usually 8 weeks before due date.
