Mother–Daughter First-Period Zine
One folded page to read together.
Print one page, fold it into a small booklet (fold in half twice), and read it together. Each section below is one page of the zine.
1 · What’s happening
Your body is getting ready to be able to have a baby one day — long before you’d ever want to. Once a month the womb builds a soft lining; when it isn’t needed, it leaves the body as a period. It’s a sign everything is working.
2 · What it looks like
A little blood over a few days — reddish-brown, sometimes with small clots. Only a few spoonfuls in total, even when it looks like more. The first few periods can be irregular; that’s completely normal.
3 · What you’ll feel
- Some cramping low in the belly — rest, warmth and a painkiller help.
- Moods that come and go — real, and temporary.
- Nothing you can’t do: school, sport, swimming, prayer, all of it.
4 · Your period bag
- 2 pads (change every 4–6 hours)
- A spare pair of dark underwear
- A small paper bag to wrap a used pad before binning it
- This zine, folded in the front pocket
5 · When to tell an adult
- A pad soaks through in an hour, for a few hours in a row.
- Pain that stops you going to school or play.
- No period at all by age 15 — a routine check is all it takes.
- Any question at all. There is no silly one.
6 · A note from me to you
